Grown by Luigi Ferrando—the ‘king’ of Carema—in the shadow of Mont Blanc, this might be Alto-Piemonte’s finest traditional expression of nebbiolo: floral aromas lead to a lively, bright palate with layers of bright red berries, freshly-tilled earth, and stony minerality. The 2016 Carema Etichetta Bianca is such a delight. What a wine. The 2016 has it all - aromatic presence, sculpted fruit and fabulous persistence. There is a bit of development in the flavors and yet the 2016 remains wonderfully fresh. Crushed raspberry, mint, white pepper, crushed rocks and dried herbs build into the taut, saline finish.
